DANCE THEATRE AT THE PERNER-INSEL

"The day I go to the body" and "Senza fine"

The day I go to the body is situated in the hospital well known from Lars von Trier’s popular TV series, The Kingdom. The same characters and figures are there, but Schlömer takes them off into other areas – created by Jens Kilian, who designed the stage and costumes for The day I go to the body. He is also stage designer for Senza fine. Jens Kilian was born in Dresden and after finishing grammar school and completing a traineeship he worked as a film scenery assistant with the DEFA studio for feature films in Babelsberg. After a five-year study period he was conferred with the Diploma for Stage and Costume Design from the University of Berlin-Weißensee and then became a film scenery designer. He moved to West Berlin in 1985. He spent four years as stage design assistant at the German Opera Berlin before taking up a post as director of scenery and settings at Cologne’s Schauspiel Theatre.

Twice invited to the Theatre Congress

Since 1987 he has worked on theatre and opera productions in Berlin, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne and Zürich with such well-known directors as Thirza Bruncken, Dimiter Gotscheff, Joachim Schlömer and Jossi Wieler. He was in sole charge of stage design and costumes for GMD Eberhard Klake’s production of Prometheus 6 at the Nuremberg Opera. In 1999 he cooperated with Christof Nol on the production of Salome in Frankfurt. Other important productions where Jens Kilian was stage designer include Strindberg’s Miss Julie, 1993, Jelinek’s Stecken, Stab und Stangl, 1996 (both productions were invited to take part in the Berlin Theatre Congress), Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel, 1994, Parsifal, 1995, The Rhine Gold, 1999 (as part of the Ring in Stuttgart), Dorst’s Merlin, 2000, Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann, as well as The Freeshooter at the Comic Opera and Fidelio at the German Opera in Berlin.
