| We’re looking forward to welcoming you! An attractive summer programme for Friends
The first phase of building and reconstruction of the “House for Mozart” has been completed according to plan and within the estimated budget. Excavation work was carried out under the stage area, the orchestra pit and the auditorium; the wing containing the artists’ dressing rooms was renovated. The Kleines Festspielhaus will be in use in the summer and initially you will not notice any changes. The next phase, from September 2004 until June 2005, involves the structural completion of the stage, auditorium and foyer of the “House for Mozart”.
Of the € 8.2 million building cost subsidy which the Salzburg Festival is itself obliged to raise privately, we still need to find about € 3 million. The American patron Donald Kahn has agreed to donate € 4 million and half this amount has already been paid into the “House for Mozart” donation account. Your contributions to our donation account are very endearing! Several people have followed the initiative of the donor we mentioned in the last issue and have arranged for a small donation to be debited directly every month. We are very grateful. Those of you living in Germany will automatically receive a receipt from us at the end of the year. This year’s Summer Programme for Friends again offers many attractions: Ursel and Karl-Ernst Herrmann, Peter Simonischek, Philippe Jordan and Cornelia Froboess will be guests of festival president Helga Rabl-Stadler in her series Salzburg Encounters. Artistic director Peter Ruzicka will speak about Der Rosenkavalier in the series of Festival Dialogues and drama director Jürgen Flimm will explain his staging concept for King Arthur. Technical director Klaus Kretschmer will reveal some secrets about his stage design for King Arthur and wardrobe director Dorothea Nicolai will give guided tours through the costume department. Gisela Prossnitz, head of the archives, will also give guided tours through the Jedermann exhibition. Barbara Frischmuth will present her new book and there will be an afternoon devoted to music by Korngold, performed by violinist David Frühwirth. We hope you will enjoy the festival summer 2004 with us. We are looking forward to welcoming you! Heinrich Spängler |
