Julia Jones conducts Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Salzburg Festival 2004. Over the past few years the English conductor, who in the coming summer will also conduct a Mozart Matinee, has acquired an excellent reputation as a Mozart specialist. Since the 2001/2002 season she has regularly conducted Die Zauberflöte at the Vienna State Opera, at the Frankfurt Opera she directed performances of Così fan tutte and at Genoa opera house Le nozze di Figaro. Julia Jones received her musical training in Manchester, Bristol and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She began her professional career as a répétiteur in Cologne and Stuttgart.
She soon made a name for herself as a performer of new music. Julia Jones makes her opera debut at the Salzburg Festival conducting Die Entführung aus dem Serail. She is stepping in for her colleague Marcello Viotti who has withdrawn from his contract for personal reasons.
