| Young Directors Project: Electronic City Falk Richter’s work in the republic
Falk Richter’s Electronic City, at present enjoying a highly successful run at a number of German theatres, will be presented at the Salzburg Festival. The director will be Luis Ureta from Chile, and performances will be by the “Compania La Puerta” from Santiago de Chile. The production is a substitution for the Finnish Ryhmäteatteri’s production of Hamlet which, for dispositional reasons, cannot go on stage.
Electronic City links up with the opening premiere of this summer’s theatre programme, where Falk Richter acts as director of Chekov’s The Seagull. Thus the audience has the opportunity to see Richter at work in both aspects of his theatre discipline: as director and as playwright. Electronic City was first performed at the Schauspielhaus in Bochum in 2003. The premiere in Chile, directed by Luis Ureta, took place at the Festival of Contemporary European Drama in Santiago de Chile. A revised version will be presented at the Young Directors Project, performed in cooperation with the Santiago de Chile Goethe Institute in Salzburg. Luis Ureta, born in 1967, mainly directs works by contemporary playwrights such as Peter Handke’s Publikumsbeschimpfung or René Pollesch’s Heidi Hoh arbeitet nicht mehr. Ureta is director of the “Compania La Puerta”, which was awarded the Chilean Critics Circle “Premio Nacional de Teatro” in 2002 for the overall excellence of their performances in the past ten years.
